Shuttle kilns
Shuttle kilns are usually provided with prefabricated modules easy to assemble, except in particular cases, where the construction is made directly on customer’s site.
Their construction changes in relation with available fuel type:
- for natural gas, LPG, poor gases, the kiln is realized in ceramic fiber;
- for diesel and fuel oil, the used material are instead insulating/refractory type.
In this type of kilns, Italforni has achieved to use heavy oil as fuel, starting the firing cycle with diesel to allow an easy and fast kiln ignition.
This result has been reached by using a particular burner, complete with compressor/pulverizator, able to operate with both types of fuel.
In relation with natural gas and LPG, the use of high speed burners has produced:
- great energy saving;
- possibility to build kilns with large loading sections;
- good firing results in all kiln sections.
Italforni realizes different capacity shuttle kilns, from 6 to 80m3, to produce earthenware, tableware, sanitary ware, coloring oxides, technical ceramic and bricks or roof tiles.
The firing curve is studied in relation with:
- type of available fuel;
- type of product to fire;
- density of volume loading;
- reducing atmosphere.
